E-Source Report Highlights MBCx Program
A recent E-Source Focus Report, "What's Working With
Existing-Building Commissioning Programs",
highlights the success of the UC-CSU-IOU
Partnership's MBCx program component. E-Source
reports that "commissioning is one of the most
cost-effective means of improving energy efficiency
in commercial buildings, with average whole-building
energy savings of 15 percent and a simple payback of
0.7 years for building owners." Of the three
commissioning programs evaluated, the UC-CSU-IOU Partnership's
MBCx program netted 180 percent of its total energy
savings goal, compared to the two other
programs which did not hit their goals. E-Source
also notes that since the ongoing commissioning
approach centers on permanent monitoring, it has a
built-in feedback mechanism that compensates for
implementation and tracking flaws common to one-time
commissioning efforts. The Partnership's MBCx
component is commended for its results and its focus
on persistence. This report is available to
